Farmers For a Green New Deal: An Online Forum
Pesticide Action Network and National Family Farm Coalition co-hosted a webinar featuring family farmers. The focus of their conversation was the Green New Deal, a nonbinding resolution introduced in the US House of Representatives early February with very little content on food and agriculture.
Demand Food Sovereignty to Commemorate April 17th
On April 17th each year, members of La Via Campesina – the largest umbrella organization in the world for family farmers, fisher and herder folk, hunters/gatherers/foresters, and indigenous peoples – commemorate the massacre of landless peasants in 1996 in the Amazonian state of Pará, Brazil. Nineteen members of the Landless Workers Movement (MST) were attacked and killed while hundreds more peasants were injured by Brazilian military police during their protest for comprehensive agrarian reform. USFSA Holds Learning Call on People’s Agrarian Reform
On May 23, 2016, the Resource Reform work team of the US Food Sovereignty Alliance held a learning call on People’s Agrarian Reform based on the principles outlined by La Via Campesina (http://bit.ly/1R9ospB) at their April 2016 International Conference of Agrarian Reform. Speaking were Blain Snipstal (Black Dirt Farm Collective, SAFFON and Rural Coalition), Dena Hoff (Northern Plains Resource Council, NFFC), Saulo Araujo (WhyHunger) and Eric Holt-Gimenez (Food First).
