Civil Society Mechanism releases COVID-19 report

This year, World Food Day (October 16) was commemorated through a variety of virtual events. One such event was the release of “VOICES FROM THE GROUND: from COVID-19 to radical transformation of our food systems“. Civil Society and Indigenous Peoples Mechanism (CSM) produced the report for the UN’s Committee on World Food Security (CFS). The report highlights the regional experiences and misguided policy responses to the pandemic: value-chain disruptions; growing food insecurity in North America; and the failure of initiatives, such as CFAP (Coronavirus Food Assistance Program), to support small and diversified operations. As an example of the kind of comprehensive policy proposal needed to address the pandemic successfully, National Family Farm Coalition’s COVID-19 platform is mentioned on page 53 of the full report.
