NFFC Applauds Introduction of Fair Trade for
Working Families Resolution
WASHINGTON, DC, May 14, 2026 – The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) celebrates the introduction of the Fair Trade for Working Families Resolution, introduced by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) and 28 co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives. The resolution outlines principles for international trade that would prioritize the interests of working people and family farmers over the profits of multinational corporations.
“In just one generation, free trade agreements have extracted untold wealth, livelihoods and natural resources from rural and urban communities alike,” said Joyce Evans, rancher and member of Powder River Basin Resource Council and the National Family Farm Coalition. “So-called ‘free trade’ is really about helping multinational corporations stay free from accountability, free to erode our rights and protections. We need democratic fair trade that prioritizes our shared values, family farmers and food producers, our local economies and communities, consumer choice and transparency, local and regional food systems and resiliency.”
The resolution calls for trade policy to more comprehensively address corporate consolidation in the farm sector; public institutional support for small-, mid-, and family-scale farmers; and market transparency through mandatory country-of-origin labeling. NFFC also urges that greater protections for seed sovereignty and supply management be part of a trade policy that is rooted in trade justice.
NFFC is proud to endorse the resolution as a part of the Citizens Trade Campaign alongside the United Steelworkers (USW), United Auto Workers (UAW), AFL-CIO, International Association of Machinists (IAM), Citizens Trade Campaign (CTC), Rethink Trade, Public Citizen, Sierra Club, NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice, and BlueGreen Alliance.
