Iowa farmer Patti Naylor, representing NFFC and Civil Society Mechanism – North America, addressed this consultation as the only U.S. family farmer. In addition to recommending increased support for agroecology as a legitimate response to climate change, corporate consolidation, and low farmer prices that have exacerbated rural America’s decline, NFFC admonished USDA for obfuscating the process for civil society to engage.
