NFFC is seeking writing and art that celebrates our coalition and family-scale farmers for our first-ever anthology. We hope this collective publication will help tell the story of family farmers’ decades-long fight for a fair food and farm system that supports their important work and ability to feed us.
What does a vibrant, robust food and farm system that supports family-scale farmers look like to you? How has NFFC and/or the family farm movement impacted you?
We are seeking submissions that are centered around one or more of the following themes:
- Food sovereignty
- Agroecology
- Justice and equity
- Economic empowerment of farmers, workers and eaters
- Combating corporate control in our food system
- Our coalition and members – who we are and our vision for the future
- Historical successes of the family farm movement
- Global solidarity – linkages between the family farm movement here and abroad
All are welcome to submit, whether you consider yourself a writer, artist, creator, or not! Get your children involved — we also welcome youth submissions! We will prioritize submissions from members of NFFC and from farmers, ranchers, fishers, and farmworkers. See below for submission guidelines. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Submission Guidelines
We are eager to feature many contributors and hope to accept the majority of the work we receive, but please understand that we are limited by space in how many submissions we can accept for publication. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis until our final deadline of June 30, 2026. You will be notified via email if your work has been accepted or not by August 31, 2026. Submissions must also be in alignment with NFFC’s guiding principles. Previously published work is allowed but all work submitted must be your own – we will NOT accept any AI-generated content.
You may submit up to 4 pieces of work total, but you must fill out a separate Google Form for each submission. No more than 2 submissions per person will be published in the final anthology.
If your work is selected for publication, we are happy to offer $50 per published piece as compensation. Additionally, each published author/artist will receive one free copy of the anthology.
Poetry and Song Lyrics:
- Poems of all forms and styles are welcome. Songs must be submitted in a written or visual format such as lyrics or sheet music.
- A single poem or song should not exceed 800 words in length.
Visual Art:
- You may submit any type of visual art for consideration including but not limited to: painting, drawing, prints, photography, mixed media, sculpture, etc.
- Please submit JPEG, TIFF, PNG, or PDF files with at least 300 DPI resolution (here’s a good how-to guide – if you have problems, please still submit your artwork and if selected for publication we can offer some support.) We will be unable to accept submissions with lower resolutions as they cannot be printed.
- A title, medium, and optional brief description of the piece should accompany each visual art submission.
Written Words:
- You may submit all forms of writing to this category – fiction and non-fiction are both welcome!
- Non-comprehensive examples: journal/diary entries, flash fiction, personal musings and stories, historical knowledge, and even recipes, activities or crafts!
- Submissions should be no more than 1,500 words.
- Submit as a single attachment and include a word count with your submission.
