Rosa Bordallo
Communications Associate
Rosa comes to the NFFC team with a background in media production, digital asset management, and editorial operations. She grew up on her native homeland of Guam in the Mariana Islands before relocating to New York City to study documentary filmmaking and cultural anthropology at New York University. For 13 years she worked as a content services provider for the international division of Hearst Magazines. Rosa has also worked in the hospitality industry for several farm-to-table restaurants in Brooklyn, which deepened her advocacy for sustainable and just food systems.
She credits her Chamorro upbringing for her commitment to grassroots organizing and social agitation. Growing up on Guam in the 1980s and 90s, access to food was mostly limited to expensive imports. In just two generations, the self-sufficient food pathways of Chamorro farmers, ranchers, and fishermen had been dismantled by globalization and the American military occupation. As an example, Rosa's paternal grandfather was a cattle rancher whose land was condemned for use by the U.S. Navy. This part of history was hardly, if ever, documented. So it was the oral histories of her elders and community that informed Rosa's worldview, and cemented her understanding of the transformative power of free speech and representation in the media.
As a musician and singer-songwriter, she brings a creative spirit and collaborative approach. She is inspired by NFFC's rich history and track record of movement-building, and she is excited to harmonize and amplify the voices of our member coalition.
