NFFCNFFC Weighs In

NFFC joined the Center for Food Safety and other allies to oppose proposed changes to the oversight of genetically engineered (GE) crops in Sections 10011-10014 of the House Agriculture Committee’s discussion draft of the 2012 Farm Bill. An earlier letter was sent to Chairman Lucas and Ranking Member Collin Peterson opposing the riders; the most recent version has been signed by 44 organizations and businesses. (7.10.12)

Deny deregulation for genetically-engineered, 2,4-D-resistant corn – Letter to the USDA to deny Dow’s request to deregulate GE 2,4-D-resistant corn, a product which would likely increase the use of 2,4-D, a toxic herbicide used in Agent Orange signed by 147 organizations, farms, and businesses. An evidence-based letter signed by 35 health scientists was also submitted. (4.26.12)

NFFC and 126 national and local organizations urge Senators to support the amendment co-sponsored by Senators Tester and Hagan to ensure that small-scale direct-marketing farms and food producers are protectedfrom unnecessary and overly burdensome federal regulations.

100 organizations, representing consumers, farmers and ranchers, local food producers, and co-ops, are concerned about the pending food safety legislation, S.510, the Food Safety Modernization Act (9.28.10)

Support Fresh, Safe Local Food in the Food Safety Bill (06.10.10) – Letter to Senators by 157 organizations urging support for amendments so as to improve food safety without unnecessarily burdening and handicapping small-scale, local food producers.

Food Safety Act Has Serious Flaws (11.10.09) – Organizations representing consumers, small farmers and ranchers, and local food producers wrote Senators to express their concerns over pending food safety legislation.
