December 26: Mad Cow: Family Farmers, Cattle and Consumers are Victims of Corporate Greed (12.26.03) -In the wake of the recent announcement of finding an animal infected with Mad Cow in the United States, the National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC), today is issuing a call for major changes in the nation's food and farm policy that can restore confidence in the nation's food supply. October 9: Corporate Agribusiness Deep-Sixes Payment Limits on Factory Farms (10.09.03) -Family farmers renewed their call today for strict payment limits per operation on federal funding for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), pointing to a just-published report by the Corporate Research Project (CRP). October 8: Grassroots Groups Ask U.S. Senate to Reject Bush Appointee to USDA; Cite Dorr's Lack of Moral Fitness for Job (10.08.03) -Sixty-two rural and urban grassroots organizations from across America sent a letter today asking the U.S. Senate to reject the nomination of Thomas Dorr as Undersecretary of Rural Development for the USDA. September 15: US Farmers Denounce WTO's Collapsed Negotiations (9.15.03) -The U.S.-based National Family Farm Coalition joined with farmers and peasants around the world Monday as part of Via Campesina in responding to the collapse of the WTO talks. September 3: U.S. Agriculture/Rural Organizations and University of Tennessee Unite to Release Groundbreaking U.S. Farm Policy Research (9.3.03) -U.S. agriculture and rural organizations from across the nation united Wednesday with the University of Tennessee's Agriculture Policy Analysis Center (APAC) to release a groundbreaking policy study that suggests a reformed U.S. farm and trade policy would benefit farmers worldwide. APAC and the American Corn Growers Association (ACGA) primarily funded the study, titled "Rethinking U.S. Agriculture Policy: Changing Course to Secure Farmer Livelihoods Worldwide," which found conclusive evidence that U.S. farm and trade policy negatively impacted agriculture in the U.S. and around the globe. July 8: NFFC Denounces the National Milk Producer Federation's (NMPF) Quick-Fix Approach (7.08.03) -The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) denounces the National Milk Producer Federation's (NMPF) quick-fix approach, its Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) Program, to the dairy industry crisis. June 23: Family Farmers from Throughout the United States Dumped Genetically Modified (GMO) Corn Monday (6.23.03) -Family farmers from throughout the United States dumped genetically modified (GMO) corn at the World Conference on Agricultural Science and Technology to expose the distortions and lies being perpetuated by the Bush Administration and the biotechnology industry in the promotion of genetically engineered (GE) seeds and foods. June 20: Recent Weather Conditions Leave Farmers No Choice (6.20.03) -The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) urges Congress to address what farmers in the fields across the nation are already calling a disaster-with the wettest conditions in the 2003 Spring and early Summer that many farmers can recall, desperate times call for desperate measures. June 5: Dairy Farmers Urge Congress to Support Sound Dairy Policy Alternatives (6.05.03) -The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) submitted a statement to the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition and Forestry Wednesday regarding its "State of the Dairy Industry" hearing held May 20, 2003. NFFC urges Congress to carefully review sound dairy policy proposals created by family farmers as well as concerned citizens and consumers who support a future for the nation's rural communities. May 14: NFFC Opposes Amstutz Appointment to Reconstruct Iraqi Agriculture (5.14.03) -The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) opposes the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) naming Mr. Daniel Amstutz as Senior Ministry Advisor for Agriculture in Iraq. According to USDA, this advisory position will coordinate the reconstruction of Iraqi agriculture into "a democratic, market driven economy." May 13: Family Farmers Denounce US Complaint against EU's GMO Authorization System (5.13.03) -The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) denounced the U.S., Argentina, Canada and Egypt decision to file a complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Tuesday, challenging the European Union's (EU) authorization system on approving genetically modified organisms (GMOs). May 13: 2002 Farm Bill Anniversary Leaves Little For Family Farmers to Celebrate (5.13.03) -Exactly one year ago today, President George Bush signed the 2002 Farm Bill into law. This anniversary leaves little for family farmers to celebrate however. This farm policy ignored viable solutions to record low commodity prices, dwindling farm credit, and the continuing loss of family farms that devastate our rural communities. May 6: Family Farmers Show Support at Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) Information Session (5.6.2003) -The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) held an information session Tuesday in Kansas City, Missouri to gain more public input and provide interested parties more information about the new Country of Origin Labeling law contained in the 2002 Farm Bill. March 28: NFFC Demands FDA Enforce Federal Law Against Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC) (3.28.03) -The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) submitted a letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 26, 2003 requesting the FDA inspect members of the U.S. Coalition on Nutritional Ingredients' (U.S. Coalition) facilities based on federal law violation grounds. NFFC requests these FDA inspections based on the Coalition's representation-companies that knowingly use Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC) as an illegal ingredient in consumers' food. February 27: NFFC Elects Iowa Farmer George Naylor President (2.27.03) -The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) elected Iowa farmer George Naylor president February 17, 2003, at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C. Naylor represents Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI) on NFFC's Executive Committee. Naylor succeeded five-year president Bill Christison, a grain and cattle farmer from Chillicothe, Missouri. January 16: Family Farm and Consumer Advocacy Groups Blast Philip Morris's Kraft Foods North American, Inc. for Duping Consumers (1.16.03) -Fed up with Kraft violating federal law, two dozen family farmer and consumer advocacy groups called upon the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to take swift action against Kraft's illegal use of imported milk protein concentrate (MPC). January 15: NFFC Files Freedom of Information Act Demanding FDA Enforce Federal Law against Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC) (1.15.03) -The National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Tuesday, tracking both corporate and federal accountability. The request seeks specific action steps Kraft will implement to rectify current FDA violations, particularly the use of milk protein concentrate (MPC) and fraudulent labeling. |
